Paul Chapman

Paul Chapman

Web Developer

Expertise: Paul makes websites using WordPress and the popular Bootstrap framework and has worked on several sites for Black Vanilla’s clients. He also writes features for local magazines and is part of our team of copywriters.

Background: After 15 years in the IT sector, Paul left his job to become a full-time dad to his three children, who are all full of life and mischief. In between wiping noses, standing on Lego and scraping food off the floor, he taught himself how to create websites.

Why we love Paul: Websites are an integral part of today’s communication landscape and although we love writing words for the online audience, we’re happy to admit that the tech stuff isn’t our forte. We rely on Paul for all things digital, plus when he comes into the office he also makes a good cup of tea.

Outside of Work: Paul is a keen runner and also enjoys cycling. He can normally be found listening to music and in quiet moments he likes to read. Paul has an interest in photography and image editing, and he loves a good quiz.

Favourite film: Apocalypse Now.

Favourite holiday destination: Vietnam for the varying landscape, food and people.

Caroline Mauger

Copywriter and Proofreader

Expertise: Caroline writes for a number of magazines and websites and appreciates the opportunity to learn new things every day. She also works as an editor and proofreader and is a stickler for accuracy.

Background: Caroline has a BA (Hons) degree in European Studies from the University of Hull and a PGCE in Spanish and French from Manchester Metropolitan University. She worked in publishing in London and taught languages in secondary schools in Manchester and Guernsey for a number of years before deciding to concentrate on writing and editing.

Why we love Caroline: It’s a Black Vanilla rule that all our copy is checked by at least two people and we pride ourselves on perfect grammar. Caroline can spot a rogue apostrophe at 50 paces – she’s our kind of girl!

Outside of work: A big fan of the arts, Caroline has been involved with the Guernsey Literary Festival since it started in 2011, and writes the copy for the programme and website. She loves dancing, and recently qualified as a Zumba instructor. Caroline also loves to cook and has an impressive cookery book collection.

Favourite film: Untouchable, a French film about a wealthy quadriplegic who employs an ex-con as his carer. It’s funny but will also make you cry.

Favourite holiday destination: Europe for its sheer variety, although Caroline is often drawn back to Spain for its cities and friendly people and Italy for its beauty and great food.
