Channel Islands PR agency Black Vanilla is adapting its approach to work experience in response to growing demand from young islanders.

In previous years, to provide a beneficial experience to young people, Black Vanilla had limited spaces in its work experience scheme. However, growing demand for experience in the PR industry and the general workplace led the agency to develop a unique two-day intensive workshop.

Hosted at the GTA, the two days have been orchestrated to help Guernsey’s next generation to learn about the PR and events industry, with sessions on social media, creative content and copywriting. In addition, a careers Q&A will help students understand how they can take different routes into the industry and the skills they need to succeed.

Aimed at sixth formers and university students, the two days will culminate in students planning communications campaigns and pitching to a panel of industry experts and Black Vanilla’s clients.

Black Vanilla Director Nichole Culverwell said: ‘Guernsey’s lockdowns have meant lost opportunities for hundreds of young people in Guernsey. In response to this growing demand, we are evolving our scheme to ensure as many students as possible in Guernsey can get the necessary experience as part of their journey into the workplace.’

GTA Chief Executive Simon Le Tocq said: ‘While the pandemic has changed our lives for the past 18 months in so many ways, it has also led many young people to consider their career options in a new light.

‘The GTA is committed to helping islanders with their personal and professional development and we are delighted to assist Nichole and her team in this innovative approach to work experience.’

The two-day programme will take place at the GTA on Monday 28 June and Tuesday 29 June. Registration can be found at: https://bit.ly/3pl4iDn
